there is only on corner of the universe
that you can be certain of
improving and that is yourself or myself

he or she who asks nothing of life
but the improvement of his own nature
is less liable than anyone else to
miss and waste the life

i dont think much of a man
who is not wiser today than he was yesterday

before a diamond shows its brilliancy
and prismatic colours, it has to stand
a good deal of cutting and smoothing...
